The Thrashers signed defenseman Andrey Zubarev to a two-year contract Tuesday. The deal is a two-way contract that will pay Zubarev $625,000 in the NHL and $65,000 in the AHL.

The 23-year-old, a sixth-round pick of the Thrashers (No. 187) in 2005, spent the past two seasons playing in the KHL for Atlant. He had 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 55 games last season.

“I’m so happy,” Zubarev said recently while participating in voluntary workouts with the team. “It’s been a dream all my life. Now that I’m here, I’m so happy.”

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Zubarev won silver medals in the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships with Russia.
