MACON – Kennard Backman’s free throw with 29 seconds left in regulation sent the game to overtime and Tekele Cotton scored six of his 13 points in the extra period to give Whitefield Academy a return trip to the Class A boys final with a 72-68 win over Terrell County Wednesday at the Macon Coliseum.

Whitefield (28-3) led most of the game, but a late run by Terrell County (24-6) gave the Greenwave the lead, which changed hands five times in the fourth period.

Backman scored 21 points and Kenneth Gaines 20 for Whitefield.

Alre’k Brown scored 21 points and Charles Brown had 10 for Terrell, which reached the semifinals with back-to-back one-point wins. Four Greenwave players fouled out.
