Lacrosse
Boys and girls teams from North Carolina, Tennessee, New Jersey and Pennsylvania will travel to north Fulton County to play Milton, Westminster, St. Pius, Lambert, Harrison, Chattahoochee, Northview and Roswell in the Legacy Lacrosse Cup, to be played Friday and Saturday at Milton and Chattahoochee high schools, King’s Ridge Christian School and Alpharetta’s North Park. Competition begins at 4 p.m. Friday when the St. Pius boys take on Providence of North Carolina at North Park. The defending state champion girls teams from Milton and Westminster will meet at 4:15 p.m. Friday at Milton. Included in the schedule will be a college game at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at Milton between teams from Georgia and Georgia Tech. The inspiration for the event is Parker Jackson, a 16-year-old sophomore on the Milton varsity team who died in a single-vehicle accident Nov. 7, 2006.
Soccer
The regular-season championship in Region 5-AAAAA likely will be decided when Lassiter’s boys, ranked No. 1 in the Georgia High School Soccer Coaches poll, host No. 3 Walton in an 8 p.m. game Friday. Lassiter has won 13 consecutive games and outscored its opponents 69-8 since opening the season with a 1-1 tie against No. 7 Harrison. The girls teams also will play for the region title at 6 p.m. Friday at Lassiter. Walton is ranked No. 2 and Lassiter is No. 8.
Track and field
Almost 50 teams from across north Georgia will travel to west Cobb County to compete in two meets Saturday. Twenty-nine teams from Cherokee, Clayton, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding, Rockdale and Whitfield counties are scheduled to be at Marietta High School for the Marietta Last Chance Invitational. A few miles away at McEachern, teams from Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett and Paulding counties will compete in the McEachern Invitational. ... Other meets this week include the Sawnee Mountain Invitational on Friday at West Forsyth and the Wildcat Invitational on Saturday at Twelve Oaks Stadium in Lovejoy.
Elsewhere
The regular season comes to a close for gymnastics and tennis as teams must complete region competition by Saturday. The first round of the state tennis playoffs will be held the following week, and the state semifinals and finals will be May 6-7. The state finals in gymnastics will be April 29. ... In golf, one of the last big events of the regular season will be the Brookwood Invitational on Saturday at Summit Chase in Snellville.
