Providence Christian won the Class A baseball championship Friday with an 11-1 victory over host Charlton County in Game 3 of the championship series.

The game was halted in the sixth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

The Stars scored six runs in the first inning on five hits, as Austin Golden, Josh Carter, Austin Smith, Steven Slaughter and Max Broom all had RBIs.

Golden struck again in the second with a three-run homer and in the third with an RBI single to push the Providence Christian lead to 10-0 after three.

Charlton County scored a run in the fifth, but the Stars scored in the top of the sixth to regain the 10-run edge.

The state title is the first in any sport for Providence Christian’s boys.
