Riverside Military Academy has promoted defensive coordinator Chris Cotter as its head coach to replace Scot Sloan.

Cotter has been at Riverside the past two seasons and had been serving as interim athletics director since Sloan left to become an assistant coach at Appalachian State.

"This is what I've done for 20-plus years, and I'm thrilled they've given me this opportunity," Cotter told Jonathan Zopf of the Gainesville Times. "This has been a dream of mine for some time."

Cotter is a native of Alexandria, Va. He came to Georgia as a linebackers coach at Grayson under Mickey Conn.

Riverside was 5-6 last season out of Region 8-AA.
