St. Pius quarterback Trey White put away Greater Atlanta Christian with three second-quarter touchdowns, leading the Lions to a 56-7 win over the Spartans at George B. Maloof Stadium on Friday night.
White, a sophomore starting his second game, had 76 yards rushing and 99 yards passing. He scored on a 20-yard run to give St. Pius a 14-0 lead two minutes into the quarter. He later scored on a 40-yard run and found tight end Justin Harris for a 50-yard score to give St. Pius (2-0) a 29-0 lead with 1:34 before halftime.
Two more completions to Harris inside the final minute led to a 24-yard field goal from Joey Gargiulo as time expired.
“Our coaches prepare us so well, it’s hard to not go out and perform,” White said. “We got great play from the offense, the defense and the special teams. It was a good night overall.”
GAC (0-2) moved the ball on its first drive but struggled after that.
Pressure from Harris and Reid Callahan stalled drives and quarterback Beaux Hebert, who hit his first three passes, missed on four of his last five and finished 4 of 8 for 35 yards. The running attack totaled 9 yards in the first half, and by halftime, St. Pius had outgained GAC 259-40.
“We were able to hit a couple big plays and break the game open,” St. Pius coach Paul Standard said. “I thought we did a lot of good things. We ran the two-minute offense well, our offensive linemen played well and we got good pressure on their quarterback. GAC is a young team, and they will get better as the year goes on.
“I was concerned about how our team would respond (after beating Marist last week). It was a great win for our community.”
George Kennedy (six rushes, 66 yards) gave St. Pius a 7-0 lead with a 38-yard, fourth-down run early in the first quarter.
St. Pius backup running back Cleve Kellogg scored two touchdowns in the third quarter and Jake Delaney added a 55-yard scoring run in the fourth.
GAC faked a punt on fourth-and-long inside the final minute, and punter Taylor Bruner scored on a 55-yard run.
