Hillgrove High School’s girls and South Atlanta boys are new No. 1 teams in Georgia high school basketball this week.

Hillgrove (13-0), the fifth-year Cobb County program playing in Class AAAAA for the first time this season, moved up from No. 2 after No. 1 Norcross (14-2) lost to North Gwinnett last week.

On Saturday, Norcross beat Hoover, the Alabama Class 6A champion in 2010, and fell just one spot to No. 2.

Hillgrove now faces its most difficult week of the regular season, playing at No. 5 Campbell on Tuesday, at home against No. 3 North Cobb on Friday and at Region 4-AAAAA contender McEachern on Saturday.

In the boys Class AA rankings, South Atlanta (15-1) is No. 1 after its victory on Saturday against Christ the King of New York in Morgantown, W.Va.

South Atlanta’s lone loss this season is to the previous No. 1, Greater Atlanta Christian, in December.

GAC (13-5) lost on Saturday to Sagemont, Fla. GAC’s losses are to four out-of-state teams and to Milton, Georgia’s No. 1 team in AAAAA.

New boys teams in the rankings this week are Jenkins for Walton in AAAAA, Brunswick and Southwest DeKalb for Tucker and Hardaway in AAAA and Troup, Drew and Butler for Monroe Area, LaFayette and Eagle’s Landing in AAA.

Newly ranked girls teams are North Gwinnett for Etowah in AAAAA, Chattahoochee and Clarke Central for Northwest Whitfield and Creekview in AAAA, Peach County for Westover in AAA and GAC for Decatur in AA.
