In an 18-5 victory against Lithonia last week, Chamblee shortstop/pitcher Kelly Strychalski was 4-for-4 with a homer and two triples and drove in an astounding seven runs in one inning. “It was pretty amazing,” Chamblee coach Adrienne Keathley said. “I would say for last week Kelly Strychalski was probably our MVP.”

More softball

Greater Atlanta Christian won the Shaw Invitational this past weekend in Columbus despite dropping their first game to Harlem 9-6. During the tournament, Sierra Lawrence finished 7-for-15 with three homers, five RBIs and nine runs scored, and Natalie deLatour went 10-for-16 with two RBIs and four runs scored. She also won two games as a pitcher. … Brookwood has won 12 consecutive games behind the solid pitching of Mercer commitment Brandi Jones and Rachel Hill. Half of the victories have been shutouts. “We swung the bat pretty well with some timely hits, and pitching-wise we have been outstanding,” coach Bill Batchelor said. Against South Gwinnett last Thursday, Jones and Hill combined for a no-hitter and struck out 15 to keep the Broncos undefeated in region play. … Lassiter defeated Archer on Monday 6-0 behind Mackenzie Kayler’s second two-hit shutout in the past three games. Kayler went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer, two doubles and five RBIs. … Wesleyan junior catcher CaraMia Tsirigos said she will play her collegiate ball at Indiana. Tsirigos is an all-state, all-region and all-county player for the Wolves.

Volleyball

Harrison has won 18 of their first 19 matches, including the past four. Setter Kelly Scott has been nearly flawless in leading the team with 378 assists, 58 kills and 40 aces. The 6-foot-1 junior has been a star for Harrison since her first year in the program, when she was listed as one of the top freshman volleyball players in the nation. Scott led the team a year ago with 816 assists and most likely will eclipse that mark this season. ... Roswell’s Jennifer Shults has continued her stellar senior season with 232 kills, 17 aces, 140 digs and 14 blocks, helping the Hornets to a 14-4 overall record. Also impressive has been sophomore Carlyn Gilbert, who leads the team with 356 assists and 26 aces. Junior Claire Yakatis, 6-foot-2, has been a stopper for the Hornets with 45 blocks this season. ... Johns Creek currently is riding a 12-match winning streak. Senior outside hitter Becky Moye leads the squad with 119 kills and 40 aces, and senior libero Kellie Cappai has been one of the top defenders for Johns Creek with 107 digs. At 23-4, the Warriors look like they will break the school record for most victories in a season (37).

Cross country

Roswell hosted the Covered Bridge Invitational on Saturday, and the home team did not disappoint. The Lady Hornets placed four runners in the top 10 individually, while no other team had more than two. As a result, Roswell won the race convincingly and finished more than 30 points ahead of Lassiter and Centennial. Trojans teammates Marcie Merriman (18:43) and Morgan Ainslie (19:26) finished first and second overall. ... In the boys race, Pope and Roswell put on a two-team show. The Greyhounds’ 50 points gave them the title ahead of Roswell’s 79 points, while North Cobb raced to a third-place showing with 116 points. ... Walton’s girls and boys turned in dominant performances when teams throughout Georgia got their first look at the state-meet course during Saturday’s Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational. Both Raiders teams ran away from their competitors for convincing titles in the Class AAAAA races. The girls compiled a near-perfect 18 points, led by a one-two finish of Emily Bridges in 20:31 and Alexa Womack in 20:39. Brian Sullivan paced Walton’s boys to a 16-point victory against Collins Hill. Sullivan crossed the line first in 16:47, edging Justin Philip of Collins Hill by seven-tenths of a second. McIntosh won the Class AAAA title in both boys and girls, and the Westminster boys and Landmark Christian girls won the Class A-AAA titles.
