Cedar Grove had won 34 consecutive region games, and No. 35 appeared in the bag for the No. 1-ranked team in Class 3A. But Sandy Creek junior quarterback Geimere Latimer kept making touchdowns happen, and Cedar Grove’s 35-13 first-half lead became a 40-35 Sandy Creek victory.

Latimer, a 5-foot-9 first-year starter, had a hand in all six Patriot touchdowns. He passed for more than 300 yards for the fourth time, threw three TD passes for the seventh time and scored three touchdowns for the third time.

“He has taken off this year,” Sandy Creek coach Brett Garvin said. “He has a very high football IQ and is really in tune with the offensive coordinator.”
