Treyvon Paulk scored three touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift host Milton past Alpharetta 31-24 on Friday.
Paulk scored on a 7-yard touchdown run on the first possession of overtime, and Michael Collins recovered a fumble on Alpharetta’s first play of its overtime possession to seal the win for Milton.
The first half was full of big plays. Paulk had 208 of his 233 yards in the first half. The senior, who committed to Tennessee, scored on Milton’s first play from scrimmage, an 85-yard sprint down the sideline.
Alpharetta answered with long touchdown passes from Austin King. King, a junior making his first varsity start, threw a 72-yard touchdown to Daniel Clements and an 80-yard touchdown to Andre Harton with a minute left before halftime.
But that was enough time for Paulk to break off another long run, this time racing for 45 yards to put the Eagles up 24-13 at the half.
It’s the second win in a row in the series for the Eagles, who are expected to contend for a playoff spot in a top-heavy Region 5-AAAAAA. Milton will need to find an additional weapon along with Paulk, who was bottled up after his big first half.
The Eagles had no passing yards in the first half.
After coming up with big plays in the first half, Milton’s offense couldn’t get anything going in the second half, with the Raiders’ defense zeroed in on Paulk.
Alpharetta’s Lem Cobbs scored on a 2-yard run, and King found Clements for a 2-point conversion that cut the Milton lead to 24-21 early in the fourth quarter.
Ryan Kopec tied the score with a 26-yard field goal with 5:30 to play.
Alpharetta should be in the hunt in Region 6-AAAAAA, but has to address some issues on an offensive line that struggled against Milton’s defensive front.
Collins had three sacks, and Jordan Parisian picked off King twice in the first half.
King shook off the interceptions and finished 21-for-39 for 351 yards and two touchdowns.
Micco Brisker had a 6-yard touchdown run for Milton in the first half.
