High school football notebook
Big players stepped up in big games Friday night.
Quarterbacks Tyler Herman of Collins Hill and Terry Googer of Woodward Academy had big nights in upset victories against Top 10 opponents.
Defensive ends D’Andre Walker of Hughes and Chauncey Rivers of Stephenson, two blue-chip recruits, each spent much of Friday night in his opponent’s backfield.
And Mike Rogers of Campbell extended his rushing lead in Class AAAAAA.
Here are some of the top performances from last week in Georgia high school football:
The state’s top five
- Campbell RB Mike Rogers rushed for 359 yards and four touchdowns on 29 carries in a 49-35 victory over Kennesaw Mountain. Rogers leads AAAAAA in rushing with 1,644 yards.
- Collins Hill QB Tyler Herman was 21-of-35 passing for 305 yards and four touchdowns in a 53-28 victory over then-No. 1 North Gwinnett. He also rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
- Johnson County QB Markel Horne rushed for 330 yards and scored six touchdowns on 16 carries and was 5-for-9 passing for 17 yards and two touchdowns in a 65-29 victory against Emanuel County Institute in a game between Top 10 Class A teams.
- Schley County RB Tra Minter rushed for 315 yards, scored five touchdowns and was 6-of-9 passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns in a 66-36 victory against Central-Talbotton.
- Stephenson DE Chauncey Rivers had nine tackles, five for losses, three sacks and a deflected pass in a 10-6 victory against M.L. King that ended Stephenson's three-game losing streak to its DeKalb County arch-rival.

- Allatoona RB Josh Bettistea rushed for 295 yards and scored four touchdowns on 20 carries in a 44-7 victory against Hiram. Bettistea surpassed 1,500 yards on the season (1,525).
- Cambridge QB Brian Moore was 17-of-26 passing for 338 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns in a 52-23 victory against North Springs.
- Creekside QB Felix Harper was 19-of-22 passing for 332 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-10 victory over McIntosh.
- Drew QB Brandon Pearson threw five touchdown passes and scored a touchdown in a 68-7 victory against Mt. Zion-Jonesboro. Pearson was 16-of-23 for 336 yards.
- Duluth DE Evan Ubakanma had six solo tackles, nine assists, three sacks for 19 yards in losses and three other tackles for losses of 11 yards in a 27-14 victory over Habersham Central.
- Dunwoody RB/DB Aaron Alexander rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns, scored a two-point conversion, intercepted two passes, one of which he returned 67 yards for a touchdown, and made two tackles in a 28-0 victory over North Atlanta.
- Hughes DE D'Andre Walker had five sacks for 50 yards in losses in a 42-14 victory against East Coweta that propelled his team to a No. 10 ranking in Class AAAAAA. Teammate Keion Davis rushed for 291 yards and scored five touchdowns.
- Lanier RB Tario Fuller rushed for 239 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries in a 31-14 victory against Stephens County. Fuller passed the 1,000-yard mark for the season (1,073).
- Lovejoy WR Preston Williams scored on a 94-yard screen pass, an 81-yard pass and a 76-yard punt return in a 56-23 victory against Newton.
- Luella DB Steve Osondu had eight tackles, 3.5 behind the line of scrimmage, two sacks, a forced fumble that was recovered for a touchdown and a 72-yard interception return for a touchdown in a 43-22 victory over Morrow.
- Marist QB Chase Martensen, playing only in the first half, rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries and was 5-of-7 passing for 55 yards and one touchdown in a 49-7 victory against Stone Mountain.
- Mays LB Roderick Tyler had eight solo tackles and eight assists, a tackle for a loss and a sack in a 40-8 victory against Lakeside-Atlanta.
- Milton RB Chad Tolliver rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries and returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown in a 28-21 victory over Walton.
- Mount Pisgah Christian QB Aaron Winchester was 21-for-40 passing for 278 yards and four touchdowns and carried 16 times for 60 yards in a 28-24 victory over Mount Paran Christian.
- Mundy's Mill RB Rodney Smith rushed for 335 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries in a 24-17 victory over Union Grove. He surpassed 1,000 yards for the season (1,120).
- Parkview RB Justis Prosser rushed for 176 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries in a 21-13 victory over Central Gwinnett.
- West Forsyth PK/P Timmy Hartshorn made field goals of 42 and 19 yards, was 6-for-6 on extra points, punted once for 38 yards inside the 20-yard line and made a touchdown-saving tackle on a kickoff in a 48-21 victory over Chattahoochee.
- Woodward Academy QB Terry Googer rushed for 180 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries and was 6-of-11 passing for 165 yards and a touchdown in a 42-28 victory against St. Pius.
