Here is what they said after the Hawks’ 108-101 loss to the Grizzlies Sunday:

“Tough ball game for us. We just need to be sharper to start the game and throughout the game. We didn’t have a sharpness that you need coming to Memphis, to this building, against a good, physical team. We found a stretch where we played well. Our guys competed. Like we’ve been saying, we want to do that for longer and harder. It just wasn’t our sharpest night. I’m proud of our guys effort. They continue to compete.”

- Coach Mike Budenholzer’s opening statement

“We were just talking about it. There were a couple of those plays where there is a loose ball and Mike Miller ends up with a 3. They scored coming out of the timeout. They executed. They played well down the stretch. They made more plays than us. Mike Miller was a big part of that. He gives them a lot of space. They did a nice job. We climbed that hill and it took a lot out of us to get there.”

- Budenholzer on Mike Miller fourth-quarter 3-pointer

“Hindsight is 20-20. Paul might have played the whole second half. He played a lot. It’s a load to be battling with Zach (Randolph) down there and all their bigs and keeping them off the offensive glass. You are never sure but I know we expended a lot of energy to get there. They came back and executed and made big plays down the stretch.”

- Budenholzer on whether Hawks tired after late run

“That is just something that happens. I’m obviously not happy starting slow but I’m proud of the way our group is responding. There is a lot of resiliency and resolve. Nobody panics. Part of the sharpness, is we have to take care of the ball. (We had) a lot of turnovers and points that resulted off the turnovers. That really puts your half-court defense in a tough spot. We just have to be sharper.”

- Budenholzer on Hawks’ slow start

“We came off sluggish. We couldn’t make shots. They made shots. It was kind of the same as the Houston game. We couldn’t make shots and they did.”

- Mike Scott on Hawks’ slow start

“We got off to another bad start tonight and we put ourselves in a hole. It took a lot of energy to get back. They are a good team. They are tough down low and in the paint. It probably took a little too much energy to dig out of that hole.”

- Kyle Korver on Hawks’ slow start

“It’s just details. You can set a screen and you can SET a screen. You can run the break and you can RUN the break. You can box out and you can BOX out. I thought we played fairly hard. It wasn’t like we played at a six and needed to be at a 10. We were just a half step too slow on a couple of plays.”

- Korver on Hawks’ not being sharp

“It took us a lot of energy just to get back in the game and answer their runs. We didn’t have enough in the tank.”

- DeMarre Carroll on Grizzlies’ fourth-quarter run

“We just have to get better. We can’t keep having Mike Scott come in and save us. That is what our bench is for but us as starters have to look ourselves in the mirror and get better.”
