They made for a long good-bye but the Gwinnett Gladiators were eliminated from the ECHL playoffs Sunday in a 4-3 double-overtime loss to the South Carolina Sting Rays at Gwinnett Arena.

The loss came after a four-overtime 4-3 loss to the Sting Rays Friday night. The Gladiators failed to win a game on their home ice and dropped the series three games to one.

Three times, Gwinnett came from behind to tie South Carolina Sunday. Defenseman Will Colbert delivered the most critical goal, tying the game 3-3 with a slap shot from the right wing with just 1:40 left in regulation and forcing overtime.

But after a scoreless first extra period, the Sting Rays' Maxime Lacroix delivered the game-winner, beating Gwinnett goalie Marc Cheverie. Lacroix recorded four points in the victory.

The Gladiators won the ECHL's Southern Division but were eliminated by a South Carolina team that had finished fourth.
