Gregg Popovich won’t coach Spurs, Warriors Game 3 after wife’s death

San Antontio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich won't coach Thursday night’s game against the Golden State Warriors one day after the team announced the death of his wife, Erin.

Assistant coach Ettore Messina will fill in at head coach for Game 3 Wednesday, according to multiple outlets.

The Spurs announced in a statement late Wednesday Erin died, leaving behind her husband of 40 years and two children, but did not reveal details regarding her death.

The Spurs, who trail the Warriors 0-2 in the series, tip off at San Antonio’s AT&T Center at 9:30 p.m. ET.
