PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan didn’t say it – but he said it.
The Tour Championship will move to August in 2019 as the tour’s season-ending event is played at East Lake Golf Club. The event has been held in late September the past 11 years.
Monahan was in Atlanta on Monday to announce a more than $2.5 million donation from the 2017 Tour Championship. The donation to the East Lake Foundation will primarily benefit the Drew Charter School and the First Tee program.
On whether he would confirm a new date, Monahan said “We will be announcing our schedule (for next season) probably in the May-June time frame. But we’ve been pretty clear that we are going to try to complete our season by the start of college football and the NFL. We have some more work to do but that’s a goal and we are making some good progress.”
The Tour Championship was held in November in 2004 and 2005 when East Lake became the permanent home of the event.
The first college football games of the 2018 season will be Thursday, Aug. 30 and the Chick-fil-A Kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 1.
