Recording artist Darius Rucker will perform Wednesday near the East Lake Golf Club driving range, as part of the Tour Championship's Community Day. The 6 p.m. concert is free to all Wednesday ticket holders.
Rucker will sing hits from his latest album and several past selections, plus “Together, Anything is Possible” with a chorus from East Lake’s Drew Charter School. Rucker wrote and produced the song in partnership with the PGA Tour, and all proceeds from the song’s downloads at iTunes support several tour charities.
Also as a part of Community Day, the event will host a baby shower for expectant wives of current military personnel.
Weather forecast
Tournament officials expect good weather for the event, especially on the weekend. Scattered thunderstorms, with temperatures in the upper 70s, are forecast for Atlanta through Friday, sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday for the final two rounds.
Players slowly arrive
With the conclusion of Sunday's BWM Championship, outside Chicago, just a few players made their way to East Lake on Monday. David Toms, Dustin Johnson, Keegan Bradley and Aaron Baddeley were among those who practiced at the course. It was Bradley's first time at the venue.
Finishing touches
According to Tour Championship executive director Todd Rhinehart, officials and workers were busy Monday getting ready for tournament. The venue will be open to the public on Wednesday for practice rounds before the start of the event on Thursday.
“The golf course is in great shape right now,” Rhinehart said. “From a tournament operational standpoint, everything is ahead of schedule. ... It’s kind of like closing on a house. You have the landscapers, the painters, all working. That’s what we have right now, putting on the finishing touches to get ready for Wednesday when we open the gates.”
Ticket update
According to Rhinehart, a limited number of tickets for the Tour Championship still remain. He said interest picked up Monday morning following the conclusion of the BMW Championship, where Justin Rose, John Senden and Geoff Ogilvy each jumped more than 30 places in the point standings to land a spot in the Tour Championship.
