Former Web.com Tour player Jonathan Fricke of Snellville headlines a strong field at the Georgia Open, an event he’s won twice, when it begins Thursday at Pinetree Country Club in Kennesaw.

Fricke spends most of his time these days on the PGA Canada Tour. His best finish there in 2015 has been a tie for 44th at the Players Cup.

The field also includes former Georgia Open winner Jeff Hull, five-time National Senior PGA player of the year Sonny Skinner, Georgia Golf Hall of Famer James Mason and recently inducted Baseball Hall of Famer John Smoltz.

Others in the field are Georgia State’s Davin White, who won the Players Championship at Berkeley Hills, Georgia Junior Amateur champion S.M. Lee and two-time Georgia Amateur champion David Noll Jr.

Defending champion Jay McLuen, a two-time winner of the event, is not in the field. McLuen qualified for the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship in Reno, Nev.

Ollie update: Georgia Tech graduate Ollie Schniederjans followed up his tie for 22nd at the Canadian Open with a tie for 15th at the Quicken Loans National, where he had the lead at one point of the second round. He is in the field for this week's Barracuda Championship.

If he finishes the equivalent of No. 200 on the FedEx Cup points list, he will qualify for the Web.com Tour Finals. Schniederjans currently has 115 points; the No. 200 ranked player has 86 points.
