San Francisco Giants President and CEO Larry Baer announced Monday he was taking a leave of absence from the team after a video showing him in a physical altercation with his wife surfaced last week, KPIX reported.

"Mr. Baer has acknowledged his behavior was unacceptable, apologized to the organization and is committed to taking steps to make sure that this never happens again," the team's Board of Directors said in a statement. "He has also requested, and the Board has accepted, his request to take personal time away from the Giants beginning today."

Baer, who has been the team's CEO since Jan. 1, 2012, was shown in a video obtained by TMZ reaching toward his wife, Pam Baer, at a San Francisco park Friday, trying to take a cellphone out of her hand, the Chronicle reported. Pam Baer is heard screaming as her husband steps over her, causing her chair to tip over, KNTV reported.

"Oh, my God! Help!" Pam Baer is heard yelling on the five-second video, the Chronicle reported. Larry Baer walks away, yelling, "Stop, Pam, stop!" the newspaper reported.

The couple apologized after the incident.

The Giants' executive team has been asked to manage the club's day-to-day operations, KPIX reported.

Baer was part of the group that bought the Giants in 1992, keeping them in San Francisco despite efforts of a Tampa Bay ownership to buy and move the franchise, ESPN reported. The Giants the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014.
