Georgia Tech associate director of player personnel Errin Joe, who was a starting offensive lineman for the Yellow Jackets’ Orange Bowl championship team, has accepted a position at Connecticut to become its director of recruiting.

Joe joins the staff of former Falcons coach Jim Mora, who was named the Huskies’ coach in November. Joe also is reunited with former Tech graduate assistant coach Preston Pehrson, now the Connecticut general manager. Pehrson was at Tech 2011-15 and coached Joe on the offensive line. Joe is taking on an estimable challenge; Connecticut is an independent and has not won more than three games in a season in its past five seasons.

After completing his playing career in 2015, Joe returned to Tech in 2018 as a graduate assistant coach, a position he held for three years. (He earned a master’s in building construction in 2020.) On coach Geoff Collins’ staff, he assisted offensive line coach Brent Key. Joe became part of the recruiting staff in 2021.

A popular figure on the staff, Joe’s announcement Monday on Twitter of his departure was received warmly.

“Blessed to be able to work with unbelievable people like @coacherrinjoe!!!!” general manager Patrick Suddes wrote in a tweet. “Big things ahead!!!”

Joe started 16 games for former coach Paul Johnson in the 2014 and 2015 seasons, helping the Jackets lead FBS in rushing with a school-record 342.1 yards per game in 2014.
