Georgia State’s R.J. Hunter was named the Sun Belt men’s basketball player of the week on Monday.

Hunter scored 23 points in Thursday’s 73-72 win against Arkansas State. His last points came on the game-winning basket with 11.1 seconds left.

He followed that with 25 points in Saturday’s 99-73 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock.

The Panthers (12-6, 5-0) have won nine consecutive games, just two away from tying the school record for consecutive victories set during the 2011-12 season. The Panthers will play at Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday and at Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.

It’s the second time in three weeks that Hunter, a sophomore, has earned the conference award.
