ATHENS -- Bulldogs, beer and basketball will become a thing at the University of Georgia.

The UGA Athletic Association on Wednesday announced that it will sell beer and seltzer drinks at Stegeman Coliseum this season. The men’s team has an exhibition game Nov. 5 vs. Morehouse, then opens the season Nov. 9 against Florida International. The women open against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 11.

Georgia said it is the 11th school within the 14-member SEC to sell alcoholic beverages at basketball games.

As might be expected, there are many guidelines beyond having proof one is 21 years of age or older. Those include:

  • Identification check is required at all points of sale.
  • Enforced limit of two beverages per person per transaction.
  • Sales begin one hour before announced start time.
  • Alcohol sales end at the 12-minute media timeout mark of the second half or at the end of third quarter for women’s games.
  • All beverages will be served in cups.
  • Aramark, UGA’s concessions partner, will manage all operations associated with the sale of alcohol, and its employees will undergo extensive training to become certified in an accredited alcohol service program.
  • Each event will have an alcohol-compliance supervisor.
