Georgia unveiled the special insignas painted on the field at Sanford Stadium that will honor Vince Dooley and Charley Trippi during Saturday’s game against Tennessee.

Along the sideline in a red block will be the initials VD in white and Dooley’s signature in black and the No. 62 in white and Trippi’s signature in black. The Georgia Football Twitter account posted pictures Friday.

Dooley died Oct. 28 surrounded by family at home. He was 90. The Georgia Bulldogs’ Hall of Fame coach and athletic director was interred at Oconee Hill Cemetery after a private funeral at the Catholic Center at the university on Thursday.

There will be a moment of silence before the 3:30 p.m. kickoff, followed by a video tribute on the Jumbotron for Dooley. The special markings were painted on Dooley Field, which was named in the coach’s honor in 2019. A special patch honoring Dooley’s memory has been sewn on Georgia’s uniforms and will be worn the rest of the season.

The Bulldogs already are wearing a black No. 62 helmet decal honoring Charley Trippi’s memory. Trippi, considered UGA’s greatest athlete of all time, died at the age of 100 on Oct. 19.
