ATHENS -- Georgia cornerback Tyson Campbell and safety Richard LeCounte are turning pro.

Neither decision should come as a great surprise. LeCounte, a senior and preseason All-American, has been out of action for the Bulldogs since Oct. 31 when he was involved in a near-fatal motorcycle crash in Athens. He dressed out and returned to the field for a ceremonial last play with Georgia in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on Friday.

“I’m so excited for the next chapter of my life and pursuing my dream of entering the 2021 NFL Draft,” LeCounte posted on his Twitter account.

Campbell, a junior for the Bulldogs and one-time 5-star recruit, entered the season with early-round draft predictions. He announced his decision to enter the NFL draft via his Twitter account Wednesday afternoon.

Campbell joins Eric Stokes and Trey Hill as Georgia underclassmen who have declared for the draft. Junior nose guard Jordan Davis hasn’t announced whether he will return for his senior season this year. Also, junior wide receiver Matt Landers is entering the transfer portal.

Campbell played in all 10 games this season for Georgia, recording 29 total tackles (20 solo) and intercepted one pass, the only interception of his UGA career. Campbell played in 33 games for the Bulldogs. He was credited with 89 tackles (58 solo), 3.5 tackles for loss and 11 passes defensed.

LeCounte finished season with 26 tackles, three interceptions and four pass breakups. He had career highs in tackles (13) and pass breakups (3), along with an interception in a win at Kentucky. It was less than two hours after Georgia returned to Athens from that trip that his motorcycle collided with two vehicles in an accident that left LeCounte hospitalized three days. LeCounte was a semifinalist for the Bednarik, Jim Thorpe and Bronko Nagurski Trophy awards at the time he was injured.
