Malik Herring, who suffered a torn ACL in January, was among three former Bulldogs getting a chance at the NFL despite not being drafted.

Herring was signed Saturday by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent.

Herring was a two-year starter for Georgia. The 6-foot-3 and 280 pound defensive end was second on the team with 24 pressures last season. He racked up 21 tackles with 2.0 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss.

Two other former Bulldogs were signed to NFL squads.

Jamie Newman, who opted out of the 2020 season after transferring to Georgia from Wake Forest, went undrafted but was signed to add depth for Philadelphia behind Jalen Hurts at quarterback.

Newman, who performed before NFL scouts at the Senior Bowl, is considered a dual-threat quarterback who at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds is as effective as a runner as he is a thrower.

DJ Daniel, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound cornerback, was an 11-game starter for the Bulldogs in 2019. Injuries, however, limited his play as a senior. He was signed Saturday by the Jaguars.

Daniel will be reunited with Bulldogs teammate Tyson Campbell in Jacksonville. Campbell was one of nine Georgia players taken this draft — a school record for a single draft.
