The law firm of Jose Baez, former defense attorney of Aaron Hernandez, plans on examining if Hernandez’s death on Wednesday was actually a suicide.

Hernandez was found hanged in his jail cell early on Wednesday morning in what appeared to be suicide. Hours following the announcement of Hernandez's death, Baez released a statement.

"The family and legal team is shocked and surprised at the news of Aaron's death," Baez said according to the Boston Herland. "There were no conversations or correspondence from Aaron to his family or legal team that would have indicated anything like this was possible.

“Aaron was looking forward to an opportunity for a second chance to prove his innocence. Those who love and care about him are heartbroken and determined to find the truth surrounding his untimely death. We request that authorities conduct a transparent and thorough investigation."

Just five days before his death, Hernandez was acquitted of the 2012 double-murder of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

Hernandez’s former agent Brain Murphy also released a statement on Twitter commenting on the circumstances surrounding Hernandez’s death.

Hernandez did not leave a suicide note, according to Department of Correction spokesman Christopher M. Fallon.
