FLOWERY BRANCH – It was a surprisingly busy week for the Falcons during the first week after the Super Bowl.

Before all of the folks could get out of the Bay Area from Super Bowl 50, the Falcons were making moves and then there was the bombshell announcement out of Arthur Blank’s office.

Here are the five things we learned this week about the Falcons:

1. BLANK HAS CANCER: Falcons owner Arthur Blank has prostate cancer. It's treatable. He plans on having an aggressive treatment.

2. MOORE, DURANT RELEASED: Former Falcons safety William Moore, who made the Pro Bowl after the 2012 season, and linebacker Justin Durant were released on Monday. Durant was released after just one season. He looked like the team's best linebacker early last season before injuries ravaged his body, once again.

3. SMITH GETS SUPER BOWL SHOUT OUT: Falcons defensive coordinator Richard Smith received a "shout out" from Super Bowl most valuable player Von Miller on Monday morning after Super Bowl 50. He credited Smith, his former position coach, with helping him get his career off to a strong starter.

4. WARD ON WARD: We caught up with Denver safety T.J. Ward at the Super Bowl. He discussed how proud he was of his younger brother, Falcons running back Terron Ward.

5. KERNEY ON BEASLEY: The fine folks over at atlantafalcons.com caught up with former Falcons defensive end Patrick Kerney and he discussed what he saw from defensive end Vic Beasley during his rookie season.
