Falcons tight end Jacob Tamme flashed his big-play ability with a 41-yard catch-and-run against the New York Giants.
With the Dallas Cowboys determined to stop Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones, Tamme must “Rise Up” and continue to make big plays.
On the play against the Giants, Tamme faked like he was blocking before darting across the field. Jones was coming from the other side and a gang of Giants chased him.
Tamme ran free.
“It was nice to get into some open space,” he said.
Tamme has nine targets and seven catches for 96 yards in two games.
“Tamme has shown what he can do,” quarterback Matt Ryan said. “I think he’ll be a big part of what we do all year.”
He could also be a weapon on third downs.
“I think four of his catches may have gone for first downs in the game,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said. “Those kinds of conversions are huge. Some of them were as a keeper coming out, where you have a guy like Julio Jones who’s getting a lot of attention, sometimes those opportunities come up. So it was great to see him take advantage of his opportunities when they came.”
Tamme was signed as a free agent after spending his career in Indianapolis and Denver.
“The good thing about our offense is that we have a lot of different guys who can make plays,” he said. “At the tight end position, we feel like we need to do our job to help the offense every week. We’re focused on the run game and pass game, both.”
Near the end of the 41-yard gain, which was the longest of Tamme’s career, he put a move on a defensive back to gain about 10 extra yards.
“Sometimes, there are shades of the old wide receiver left in me from back in the day,” he said.
