Falcons rookie receiver Bernard Reedy was the star of the offseason and the undrafted rookie from Toledo has not faded from the scene once the team put on the pads.

Reedy is still making plays and is set to receive a lot of action when the Falcons face the Miami Dolphins in the exhibition season opener at 7 p.m. Friday at the Georgia Dome.

“Bernard is doing a good job for us,” said Terry Robiskie, the Falcons assistant head coach/wide receivers. “He’s the one guy that we have that is exceptionally fast. He’s got that speed and he can really, really run.”

But as Reedy tries to make the leap to the NFL from the Mid-American Conference, he sometimes slows down if he’s not sure of how the defense is playing him.

“When you put him out there and he knows what he’s doing, he’s fine,” Robiskie said. “He’s explosive. He’s going. He’s running 100 miles per hour. When he’s a little bit hesitate and he isn’t quite sure (about the coverage), then he’s running about like how I run. He slows down.”

Robiskie wants to help Reedy through those rough patches as he competes for perhaps the sixth wide receiver spot on the roster behind Roddy White, Julio Jones, Harry Douglas, Devin Hester and Courtney Roby.

“I just have to keep him going, keep him focused,” Robiskie said. “He’s got a chance to do some things in the (exhibition) season.”
