Falcons left tackle Jake Matthews met with the local media via Microsoft Teams on Thursday.

Here are five quick takes from the call:

1. Daddy Matthews. Matthews is working out with his Hall of Fame father, Bruce Matthews, who puts him through some old-school wind sprints at the end of the workout. "I love doing that with him," Matthews said.

2. Gurley fan. His cousin Clay Matthews, who played with the Rams last season, gave running back Todd Gurley a glowing recommendation. "He's proven that he's a stud," Matthews said. "I'm fired up to block for him."

3. Green Egg master. Matthews said he's been working on his smoking skills on the Big Green Egg that quarterback Matt Ryan gave him and the rest of the offensive linemen after the 2017 season. He's been smoking salmon and steaks. He has plans to venture into smoking some chicken, he said.

4. No meat. Matthews said he freaked out a few days ago when he went to the grocery store in suburban Houston and they were out of meat.

5.  Uncle Jake. Matthews said he's been doing well during the quarantine. "The craziest thing is that my sister is having a baby in the next month," Matthews said. "That is going to be real interesting with this whole pandemic going on."
