Falcons, Texans to avoid full-contact in practices

Aug 11, 2014

Some of the grounds rules have been set for the Falcons practices with the Texans on Wednesday and Thursday in Houston.

Much like the practice here with the Tennessee Titans on Aug. 4, no full contact drills are scheduled.

“No, it will be thud,” Houston coach Bill O’Brien told the Houston media on Monday. “Yeah, there might be something that is short yardage or goal line situation that maybe you would, (Falcons coach Mike Smith) and I would decide (if) we’ll go live here because it’s on the one-yard line or something. More than likely, it will all be thud.”

The Texans who were thrashed 32-0 in their exhibition opener against Arizona will travel to Denver for practices with the Broncos later in training camp.

Teams are using the training camp practices to ramp things up because some of the practices were taken away by the most recent collective bargaining agreement.

“Before the new CBA came out in 2011 you had a little bit more time in the offseason and in training camp to develop your whole team, to develop your younger players,” O’Brien said. “These are good, really good practice sessions for us to be able to get ahead on some of those things that maybe we’re not ahead on.”
