Flowery Branch -- The Atlanta Falcons released quarterback D.J. Shockley from the practice squad on Wednesday.
The team, which is thin at running back, signed former Florida State standout Antone Smith.
Shockley, a former star at the University of Georgia and North Clayton High, was the third string quarterback last season. This year he was unable to beat out John Parker Wilson for the No. 3 spot.
He was re-signed to the practice squad and helped the team scout team out at quarterback and wide receiver.
