New Falcons offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian talked about his battle with alcoholism and his road to recovery in an article Monday from CBS Sports' Pete Prisco.

His struggles with alcohol led to a very public firing as the head coach at USC in 2015, but he landed on his feet as offensive coordinator at Alabama, and now replaces Kyle Shanahan in the same role with the defending NFC-champion Falcons.

“I came out of it all knowing there was a better version of Steve Sarkisian inside of me,” Sarkisian said. “I wanted it for myself, but I wanted it for the people who love me and care about me."

Now, thanks to longtime friend Dan Quinn -- Atlanta’s head coach -- Sarkisian is getting a second shot at the NFL, more than a decade after he became an assistant with the Oakland Raiders.
