Despite forcing three takeaways Sunday against the Colts, four offensive turnovers returned the Falcons to a negative season turnover margin.

The Falcons entered Sunday’s game with a turnover margin tied at 14 and ended the game minus one with 17 takeaways and 18 giveaways this season.

Coach Dan Quinn reiterated postgame what he’s been preaching for weeks: the Falcons’ play their best football when defense is forcing turnovers and creating opportunities for the offense.

“I thought defensively, forcing some (turnovers) today was a significant improvement in terms of the way we want to go attack,” Quinn said. “We didn’t get any points off those turnovers today and I think that was a real factor.”

Linebacker Paul Worrilow intercepted a pass intended for Colts’ tight end Coby Fleener at the Indianapolis 45-yard line with a return of 11 yards. He also had a fumble recovery off Colts’ running back Frank Gore in the first quarter.

Worrilow said it’s evident that the Falcons’ continue to come up short because they aren’t finishing on the field.

“Anytime you’re out there, you just try to do your best and own your role the best that you can,” Worrilow said. “I think defensively, we were all doing that.”

Worrilow finished the Falcons 24-21 loss against the Colts with six tackles and one deflected pass.

Safety Ricardo Allen had an interception on the Falcons’ 2-yard line returned for 13 yards in the early fourth quarter.

Allen said with the effort given on the field, he doesn’t understand how the Falcons’ gave the game away.

“We’re doing all we can,” Allen said. “We have to look at ourselves. We can’t worry about what’s going on the other side of the field. I’m a defensive player and my job is to not let them score. And maybe 24 points is too much.”

Allen said he wasn’t frustrated with the offense’s inability to score off the turnovers because, “we’re in it together,” regardless of the score.

“We’re a team. We fight. We finish,” Allen said. “We’re not going to tuck our tails under. We’re ready for every challenge. We don’t really care what the outside says, we know who we are and what we can do. And we’ve done it before.”
