Falcons linebacker Paul Worrilow was telling reporters the team wasn’t much concerned about what the Saints did against the Ravens on Monday night when teammate Sean Weatherspoon walked by and interjected.

“But we are cheering for them to lose!” Weatherspoon shouted.

After losing to the Browns on Sunday to fall out of first place in the NFC South, the Falcons (4-7) would regain the division lead if the Ravens beat the Saints (4-6) tonight. Losing but staying in the South race because division foes also lose has been a consistent theme for the Falcons this season.

It’s in the Falcons’ best interest for the Saints to lose but guard Justin Blalock has been among the players weary of depending on other teams to improve their fortunes. That’s why he didn’t seem enthusiastic about pulling for the Ravens to win.

“Obviously it’s great if that happens,” Falcons guard Justin Blalock said. “But we don’t want to just kind of hobble into things like that. Obviously we’d like to handle what we can and make that stuff irrelevant.”
