10 comments from Dan Quinn on the Falcons
FLOWERY BRANCH - Here's what Falcons coach Dan Quinn had to say on Monday after the team returned from their mini-bye:
Opening Statement:
“It was an awesome day for us to get back to doing exactly the things we like, and that’s going against one another. All of the work was aimed at improvement. There are a number of things for us all to go through. Also, as coaches, we found some of the things that we do well, and some of the things that we want to improve on. It was a really good day. I loved the energy for the guys. It was a great day to get back to work.”
On how the rest went for Julio Jones:
“I think just from the end of last week, he was doing really good. He had no setbacks at all in the game. From here and moving forward, he’s doing great.”
On whether he’s still hopeful to get Mike Person and Justin Durant back:
“Yeah, I’m hopeful for Wednesday that they’re able to fully participate. They moved around today, so they’re kind of following right along the plan.”
On how he plans to get the turnovers and pass rush moving:
“One, for the pass rush, it really comes right down to our technique. It’s definitely an area that I feel like we can improve upon. We’re going to work really hard to do that. From the turnovers, we totally live by the ball. For us to have a game where we’re minus three makes it really difficult to win. We know the importance of it. We didn’t create any defensively, so I believe that was the first game where we didn’t have a takeaway in. On both sides, there are lots of areas to improve. We’ll give New Orleans credit for the game they played as well.”
On how he plans to help them finish, in terms of the pass rush:
“I think you nailed it right there, in terms of the finish. That’s usually what it comes down to as pass rushers. We’ll have some four man rush, or some five man rush, but we went back through all of them and looked at pressures, rushes, which fronts are better for us, which ways we can convert better. The good news is there’s a lot for us to improve on, and I can’t wait to see that happen.”
On whether blitzing is an option for them moving forward:
“I think it’s always an option, but as we’re getting together, in terms of how we want to play our style it’s certainly a part of it, but we’ll always do what’s best in terms of how we want to play.”
On whether it raises the bar in the NFC South with Carolina winning at Seattle:
“We’re not going to concern ourselves too much about the opponents. Our division really comes down to us, and the attitude and style that we play. That’ll kind of be a constant theme with me. We’re not going to allow other teams to dictate how we play, and what we think. I love that message about how we play and our own style. We’ll leave it right there.”
On Grady Jarrett making a nice play in Thursday’s game:
“I think it was the quickness that you really see from Grady [Jarrett]. Tackle for a loss, and you felt quickness, so we certainly need to get him some more turns as he’s improving week after week.”
On what he’s seeing out of Robenson Therezie as he continues to develop here:
“Number one, I think we want to see the communication really ramp up. He’s got quickness, and he’s a really good tackler. I think the area for him to improve, and what we’re hoping to see is that communication on the field, where when you’re playing the middle field you can make all of the calls to the guys, so that’s what we’re really looking for, especially this week.”
On how the mini bye week helped:
“Well the only negative part is all players at this time of year are dealing with some type of injury, so for us to get back, and be as healthy as we are, I’m pleased about that. It’s always difficult because we didn’t get right to the information until now with the guys. They had a good break. We went back through the game today and made sure we made all of the corrections, and then we got on the field and went through some of them, and then moved ahead as well. It was a good session for us.”
