FLOWERY BRANCH -- Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon had his rookie season shortened by ankle and knee injuries. He’s back and plans to make an major impact on the defense in his second year in the league.
Here’s a brief Q&A involving Weatherspoon and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s D. Orlando Ledbetter:
Q: How did the first-team defense perform during the exhibition season?
A: We started out pretty hot. Throughout the preseason, I think we just got better. I think that's something that you have to do. I think, mentally, a lot of guys have progressed.
Q: Are you ready for the season to start?
A: One positive thing is that we're flying around [and] I don't think many guys have loafed in the preseason. Guys just went around, flying around; we just trying to get better. ... I think we are right where we need to be.
Q: What’s the buzz like in the locker room about the new defensive backs Kelvin Hayden and James Sanders?
A: It's a positive buzz. Anytime that you can get some guys to come in here and fortify the defense on the back end, I think that's going to be great for us. Those guys are two proven players and we look forward to seeing them get out there with us pretty soon.
