Five things to know about Miles Robinson, selected by Atlanta United with the No. 2 pick in Friday’s MLS SuperDraft in Los Angeles.

1. He is a part of history. This was the expansion side’s first-ever draft pick.

2. At 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, he has good size for a centerback. He is also athletic enough that he can play three of the four positions in a traditional four-man back line. He played in a three-man back line at Syracuse.

3. He’s also an offensive threat who scored eight goals in two years.

4. Technical director Carlos Bocanegra said Robinson was the player he wanted ever since he started paying attention to him earlier this summer. He liked the way Robinson moved, the fact that he would shut down whoever he faced, particuarly while with the Under-20 U.S. national team.

5. Robinson’s parents, Jeff Robinson and Jane Madden, said they were thrilled that he was selected by Atlanta United because of the history of being the first pick, the new stadium, manager Gerardo Martino, and that they have family in Atlanta.
