During his major league debut on Thursday night, New York Yankees outfielder Dustin Fowler suffered a season-ending right knee injury.

An alum of West Laurens High School in Dexter, Ga., Fowler had season-ending surgery on his right knee on Thursday night after he attempted to catch a foul ball in right field and ran into a short sidewall in the first inning.

Fowler attempted to walk it off, but collapsed on the warning track.

The 22-year-old outfielder had an open rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee, according to the Yankees.

The Yankee went on to lose Thursday night’s game to the Chicago White Sox, 4-3.

Here’s what fans, reporters and players from all over the league had to say about Fowler’s heartbreaking first start.
