The grand total of University of Florida players suspended for Saturday’s season opener against Michigan now sits at 10.
Florida indefinitely suspended wide receiver Rick Wells and starting running back Jordan Scarlett, the team announced on Wednesday.
"I didn't expect these," Florida coach Jim McElwain said, according to ESPN. "I don't expect any more. But at the same time, if there is, it will be dealt with. Some places, who knows? You might try to figure it out. And yet, at the end of the day, the positive is we're going to handle what it is and not run and hide.
"As I said before, there are some guys who are going to step up and play their tails off. That will be fun to watch."
The suspensions are related to those of the seven other Florida players who were misusing school-issued funds in mid-August. Wide receiver Antonio Callaway, defensive end Keivonnis Davis, offensive tackle Kadeem Telfort, defensive linemen Richerd Desir-Jones and Jordan Smith and linebackers James Houston and Ventrell Miller were suspended on Aug. 13.
Freshman wide receiver James Robinson was suspended on Tuesday after being cited for marijuana possession earlier in August.
Five of the players suspended, including Scarlett and Wells, have previously been in trouble, according to ESPN.
Scarlett and Wells will not travel with the team for Saturday’s game and are suspended from all team activities.
Florida and Michigan kick off at 3:30 p.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
