Cotton’s bold strategy has finally paid off.

Drawing inspiration from the hit movie “DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story,” ESPN will transform ESPNU into “ESPN 8: The Ocho” on Tuesday, Aug. 8.

The idea is a throwback to the 2004 comedy in which characters played by Vince Vaughn, Christine Taylor and Ben Stiller competed in a dodgeball tournament broadcast on “ESPN 8: The Ocho.”

Actors Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor and Vince Vaughn arrive at the UK Premiere of "DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story" at the Odeon Kensington on August 17, 2004, in London.

The station was meant to show all sorts of wacky sports from around the world, which is exactly how ESPN intends to use its new channel. Zany sports that never get airtime such as roller derby, dodgeball and ultimate Frisbee can be seen on Tuesday.
