Georgia Tech got an early start on the 2021 recruiting class on Sunday, when wide receiver Malik Rutherford, from Hialeah, Fla., announced his commitment on Twitter.

Rutherford, listed at 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds, announced his offer from Tech on July 26. He had reported offers from Nebraska, Indiana, Syracuse and Tulane, among others.

He is Tech’s first committed player to the class. It has been a rarity for the Jackets to receive commitments from juniors.

His highlight video shows shiftiness in route running, excellent speed, an ability to win the ball in the air and, for his size, considerable fortitude as a perimeter blocker.
