The agreement for Georgia Tech to play in the 2017 Chick-fil-A Kickoff game against Tennessee is getting closer to completion. Athletic director Mike Bobinski said Tuesday that that he has had positive discussions with Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan about Tech’s participation in the game and is awaiting finalization of terms and the execution of a contract.

The game would be played on Labor Day Monday evening, filling the ACC’s exclusive time slot on ESPN, and could possibly be one of three kickoff games to be played over the extended weekend. It would be Tech’s first appearance in the kickoff game, which has been played annually at the Georgia Dome since 2008. The game would have the added bonus of being played in the new Falcons stadium, scheduled to open earlier in 2017.
