Georgia Tech first-year freshman B-back C.J. Leggett may still have a chance to contribute to the team this season. Coach Paul Johnson, reiterating comments first made on his radio show Monday night, said that he wanted to “take a good look” at Leggett this week to determine if he is prepared enough to play a contributing role on the field. Leggett impressed coaches in the preseason and was on track to play, but was set back by injuries.

Part of Johnson’s plan has to do with a possible full-time return of running back Synjyn Days to A-back from B-back, where he had been practicing and playing as a backup to Zach Laskey since the preseason. Days has begun playing more snaps at A-back than B-back despite practicing at B-back.

“I think we’ve hurt him by not practicing (him) there (at A-back) because he hasn’t been as good there as he was when he practiced there every day,” Johnson said.

As a result, backup B-back Matt Connors or Leggett, or both, could sub for Laskey this week. Johnson has said repeatedly regarding Leggett that he doesn’t want to take off his redshirt if he will only play a few plays per game.
