Tech-Boston College again in ACC tourney
In terms of pairings for the ACC tournament, Georgia Tech’s loss to Boston College on Saturday turned out to be inconsequential. The Yellow Jackets will be the No. 9 seed and play the eighth-seeded Eagles in the noon game Thursday in Greensboro, N.C.
Tech’s standing as the No. 9 team with a 6-12 league record was secured when Clemson lost to Miami Saturday. Even if Wake Forest beats Virginia Tech Sunday to also finish at 6-12, the Jackets will have the tiebreaker over the Demon Deacons by virtue of having swept them. The winner of the Tech-Boston College game will play No. 1 seed Miami in a Friday quarterfinal, also at noon.
After not playing Boston College through the first 17 league games, the Jackets will play the Eagles for the second time in six days. It’s the second time that the Jackets will have played its ACC tournament opener against the team they played in their final regular-season game. The other occurrence was in 1986, when Tech closed with Clemson and then beat the Tigers five days later en route to the tournament final.
