The Georgia Tech basketball team will lead into ACC play with a 13-game nonconference schedule highlighted with games against Tennessee, Georgia and VCU. Tech will also play in a new version of the NIT Season Tip-Off, which has taken on a different format than previous years and will be played for the first time at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Of the 13 games, nine will be played at McCamish Pavilion, including the season opener Nov. 13 (a Friday) against Cornell and a Nov. 16 (Monday) matchup with Tennessee. The latter game will begin a four-game series with the Volunteers. Tech will play mid-major powerhouse VCU Dec. 15 (a Tuesday). The Rams have made five consecutive NCAA appearances and will play Tech at home next year. VCU is now coached by Will Wade, formerly of Chattanooga, after Shaka Smart’s departure to Texas.

The NIT event, which once was the Preseason NIT and featured as many as 16 teams in a bracketed tournament, will now be a four-team event played over Thanksgiving weekend. Reportedly, the other three teams are Villanova, Stanford and Arkansas. The Jackets will also play two home games, as yet unannounced, tied with the NIT event prior to the games at the Barclays Center.

Tech also has home games against Wofford, Southeastern Louisiana, Colgate and Duquesne. The Yellow Jackets play road games against Tulane (Dec. 5) and Georgia (Dec. 19). The Jackets and Green Wave are beginning a two-game home-and-home that will conclude in the 2016-17 season.

Tech’s ACC schedule – which has yet to be announced – includes home games against Duke, Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia.
