Georgia Tech will have its own piece of 680 The Fan’s airwaves. The sports radio station and athletic department, through multimedia rights holder IMG, have contracted to broadcast both the football and men’s basketball weekly coaches shows and a daily segment on Tech.
They will be simulcast on 680’s FM signal, 93.7, and also broadcast on sister stations 1230 The Fan 2 and 1340 The Fan 3. The coaches shows will be on Monday nights. Johnson’s show was previously on Tuesday evenings. The radio station will also have a weekly interview show with athletic director Mike Bobinski.
Tech and 790 the Zone ended their relationship in June, with the department giving its flagship status to 106.7. That station will broadcast games and air the coaches shows on tape delay. It will air the shows live when 680 is carrying Braves programming on Monday nights.
The move continues Bobinski’s efforts to market itself better in metro Atlanta. For a variety of reasons, discussion of Tech athletics does not receive much air time on Atlanta’s three sports talk stations.
“Our partnership with The Fan’s three stations, along with our current agreement with All News 106.7FM, better positions Georgia Tech Athletics within the metro Atlanta community,” athletic director Mike Bobinski said in a statement. “It aligns us with the dominant sports radio station in the region, and gives our fans more options to listen to our games, weekly radio shows and additional programming on multiple and powerful stations.”
