Tailbacks Gurley, Davis hung out together

Todd Gurley and Mike Davis will likely be portrayed Saturday as dueling gladiators for their respective teams. The truth is, they’re actually pretty good friends.

Gurley is from North Carolina and plays tailback for Georgia while Davis is from Georgia and plays tailback for South Carolina. They’re both good at the game, combining for more than 2,000 yards rushing last season.

This summer, they hung out for a couple of days in Columbia.

“I went a few months back,” Gurley said during UGA’s Media Day on Tuesday. “I kind of knew him. I knew OF him.”

Gurley said Davis just showed around Columbia one evening. Of course, they both were recognized.

“(People) just asked me what I was doing down there,” Gurley said with a laugh. “I’m like, ‘Man, I can’t come to Columbia?’ I’ve been like twice this year.”

Davis, a 5-foot-9, 223-pound junior, was also recruited by Georgia when he was attending Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain. He chose the Gamecocks after the Bulldogs got commitments from Keith Marshall and, later, from Gurley. Davis had just 275 yards rushing as a freshman but finished fourth in the SEC last season with 1,183 and 11 touchdowns.

Limited to 10 games and just parts of two others due to injuries last year, Gurley still managed to rush for 989 yards last season and scored 16 touchdowns overall. He had 1,385 yards rushing and 17 TDs as a freshman. Both players are expected to be featured on Saturday.
