Along with Georgia Tech commits Bruce Jordan-Swilling and Tre Swilling, Brother Martin High School will begin postseason play on Friday night against Baton Rouge's McKinley High School, according to The New Orleans Advocate.
After a 28-10 win over Jesuit High School on Friday night, the Brother Martin Crusaders (7-3) enter the playoffs as a No. 6 seed. Even before the Crusaders’ win over Jesuit, Swilling and his teammates were thinking about the postseason and hoping to make it to the New Orleans’ Super Dome to play for a state championship.
“We want to treasure every moment and keep on playing and play our best during the games and stay on our assignments,” Swilling said headed into Friday’s regular season game against Jesuit.
Against Jesuit, Jordan-Swilling, a 4-star running back for the Crusaders, had three touchdowns and ran for 115 yards on 27 carries, according to The New Orleans Advocate. Jordan-Swilling was recruited by the Yellow Jackets as a linebacker.
While Swilling, a 3-star cornerback for Brother Martin, has special relationships with the seniors on his team, his friendship with his adopted brother, Jordan-Swilling, sticks out. Ever since their days in AAU basketball, the Swilling brothers dreamed of a championship.
“We always talked about it since we first met each other and first became a family and everything; we wanted to win a championship together,” Swilling said. “We gotta win, no matter which way it happens. No matter what the outcome is. Just make sure that we have a W in the win column and all that to get to the Super Dome.”
The first step in their high school football championship dream will be in defeating the McKinley Panthers (4-6) on Friday, an 11 seed in their first playoff appearance in three years, according to The New Orleans Advocate. The game is considered a home game for the Crusaders and will be held at Zephyr Field in Metairie, La., home of New Orleans’ minor league baseball team the New Orleans Zephyrs, according to the New Orleans Advocate. The Crusaders went 4-2 in home games this season.
