Stokan working to set up future Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games

Dec 29, 2014

Gary Stokan said he has had conversations with Florida State and Alabama about playing in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, but that the talks aren’t very deep. The Palm Beach Post reported in November that the Tide and Seminoles were in talks to play in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in the stadium that will replace the Georgia Dome in 2017.

“We don’t have any confirmed games ready to announce, under contract or anything like that,” he said.

Other than the 2015 matchup between Louisville and Auburn, no Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game matchups are set. Stokan, the president of the game, said he would prefer to keep the ACC vs. SEC matchup, especially now that the Chick-fil-A Bowl can no longer guarantee a game between the two conferences, but that he is talking with several interested schools.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has reported that Georgia Tech and Tennessee are trying to complete a deal to play in a Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, also in 2017. There have previously been two Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games in the same year.
