Liberty County High point guard Will Richardson could be Georgia Tech coach Josh Pastner’s first blue-chip recruit.

Richardson, a rising senior rated a four-star prospect by ESPN, gave praise to Pastner and Tech on Thursday at the Las Vegas Classic tournament and indicated they’ll be among the schools to survive an upcoming cut. He reportedly holds a slew of scholarship offers, including Virginia, Ohio State, Florida, Wake Forest and Xavier.

“Georgia Tech, they will be up there,” said Richardson, rated the No. 82 player nationally and No. 5 in the state by ESPN. “They’ve been on me for a long time. I’m really cool with coach Pastner. He really studies my game and knows where I fit in his system.”

Pastner was in attendance for Richardson’s game Thursday at the tournament with the E1T1 AAU team out of Florida. Richardson said that Pastner comes to a lot of his games, and that that is something that he keeps in mind. Pastner is in Las Vegas for a trio of major AAU tournaments with assistant coach Tavaras Hardy.

“He’s a great coach,” Richardson said. “He turned around the program last year, and the program’s coming up.”

In his team’s win over the Mac Irvin Fire team from Chicago on Thursday, Richardson showed good anticipation on defense, a knack for finding the ball and vision to set up teammates.

“I played all right,” he said. “I got my team the ball. I wasn’t really interested in scoring today. I was facilitating for them, putting everybody in the right spots, got my team the ball, got a couple rebounds.”
